The Ocean Science and Governance Youth Network (OSG Youth Network) is a global platform dedicated to empowering youth to actively engage in ocean and marine governance. Established by the Children and Youth Major Group to the United Nations Environment Programme (CYMG), the network leverages the knowledge, advocacy, and innovative solutions of young individuals and organizations to inform and contribute to global, regional, and local ocean-related policies and programs.

The OSG Youth Network actively supports UNEP-administered Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans (RSCAPs) and their efforts to address critical marine issues, including marine litter, coastal zone management, and land-based pollution, among others.
Objectives
The OSG Youth Network aims to:
-
Facilitate youth engagement in ocean governance processes, particularly through the UNEP-administered RSCAPs.
-
Leverage the expertise and creativity of youth to address marine issues at global, regional, and national levels.
-
Build capacities and provide platforms for youth to collaborate, advocate, and act on ocean science and governance issues.
-
Foster partnerships with governments, intergovernmental entities, and other stakeholders to enhance ocean governance.
Coordination
OSG Youth Network is coordinated by a Coordination Team (CT) committed to ensuring effective youth engagement in UNEP-administered Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans (RSCAPs).

Currently, Mr. Mario Galbert from Jamaica serves as the Interim Chair of the network, providing strategic oversight and guidance during its formative phase.

The network is hosted by and operates as an organ of CYMG. Its governance structure is designed to foster inclusivity, transparency, and regional representation, ensuring effective coordination and meaningful youth engagement in UNEP-administered Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans (RSCAPs), and other allied UN/Intergovernmental processes.
Leadership: The network is led by the Chair, with support from the Coordination Team (CT), which includes administrative leads, RSCAP Contact Points, and thematic representatives.

Geographical Representation: Each RSCAP is represented by two Contact Points, responsible for facilitating and monitoring the network’s activities within their respective regions.

Engagement with CYMG and MEAs: The OSG Youth Network is the designated mechanism through which CYMG mobilizes youth to support UNEP-administered RSCAPs. While functionally affiliated with CYMG, the network’s leadership operates independently, reporting on its achievements and providing technical support to other MEAs and intergovernmental processes as needed.
