Regional Youth Environment Forums

Pivotal platforms for children and youth to convene and discuss pressing environmental challenges and opportunities for action.

The Regional Youth Environment Forums (YEFs) are pivotal platforms for children and youth to convene and discuss pressing environmental challenges and opportunities for action. These forums are strategically organized just before the regional forums of ministers of the environment and environment authorities, ensuring that youth voices are heard at the highest levels of regional environmental governance. A key outcome of these forums is the production of a Regional Youth Environment Manifesto or Statement, which communicates youth expectations, demands, and actionable recommendations to member states and other stakeholders.

Regional Youth Environment Forums significantly contribute to the Global Youth Environment Assembly (GYEA) by amplifying regional voices and ensuring diverse perspectives are integrated into global policy dialogues. Manifestos and statements produced by these forums shape the youth agenda at UNEA and beyond, fostering intergenerational equity and driving inclusive solutions.

Regional Ministerial Environment Forums

Regional Ministerial Environmental Forums are an important space for political dialogue and collaboration on environmental matters at the regional levels. They also serve as a platform for Member States to contribute regional perspectives to the forthcoming session of UNEA.

Regional Consultative Meetings (RCM) take place at least once during the period between sessions of UNEA and are organized by the UNEP Regional Offices in close cooperation with the Regional Facilitators as elected by the Major Groups. During the regional consultations, joint positions are developed and challenges relevant to the region are discussed.
