International Day of Zero Waste 2024: Unleashing the Power in Youth

CYMG Chemicals, Waste and Pollution WG

Join CYMG in celebrating youth initiatives leading towards a waste-free future

The International Day of Zero Waste (30th of March) is a global platform to emphasize the critical importance of effective waste management and the imperative to promote sustainable consumption and production practices. Annually, the world generates an alarming 2.1 to 2.3 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste, with approximately 2.7 billion individuals lacking access to proper waste collection, particularly affecting rural communities. The repercussions of waste pollution extend beyond environmental degradation, posing significant threats to human health, and economic prosperity, and exacerbating the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. Without immediate action, projections indicate a staggering increase in annual municipal solid waste generation, reaching 3.8 billion tonnes by 2050.

We are delighted to share with you updates from our work at the Chemicals, Waste and Pollution Working group of CYMG as we commemorate the second International Day of Zero Waste. Find below the information of online events CYMG is taking part of organizing:
